The HRDC is supporting the development of micro-credential frameworks for the higher education and TVET sectors through collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA).
The project aims to:
- establish a structured mechanism for the design and approval of micro-credentials;
- implement two pilot initiatives—one at the Higher Education (HE) level and one within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector—based on selected micro-credentials;
- evaluate the pilot outcomes and refine the approval mechanism accordingly.
This initiative is expected to lay the foundation for a flexible, inclusive, and efficient skills development ecosystem, enabling the timely acquisition of job-relevant competencies. It will support the adoption of occupational and qualification standards through innovative qualification formats, underpinned by strong quality assurance principles and responsive, just-in-time learning models.
