In order to empower Senior Educators to better deliver career guidance information to their students, the HRDC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Careers Guidance Service had conducted a series of training for Senior Educators from both public and private secondary schools.

This highly interactive workshop-style training programme was launched in 2017 and training was conducted in groups of 80 educators from all zones. At the end of the training programme, the Senior Educators were required to work out a customised career education plan for their respective school.

An innovative element was added for the third training session held in 2019 whereby a Career Guidance Toolkit was developed by the HRDC in collaboration with the Careers Guidance Service and a resource person from Curtin University, Mauritius. The toolkit comprises different exercises and activities related to skills development and information sharing to support Senior Educators in the development of their career guidance plan. The toolkit was validated by the Senior Educators during the training session.

Awareness sessions were organised in September 2020 with rectors from public and private secondary schools where the Career Guidance Toolkit was disseminated and launched.

The objectives of the Career Guidance Toolkit are to:

  • empower the Senior Educators to provide career education and career information to their students;
  • plan and devise a customised career education plan for their schools using the toolkit as a guide; and
  • provide different exercises and activities related to skill development and information sharing to support Senior Educators.

The Careers Guidance Service will ensure the implementation of the Career Guidance toolkit during their visits to schools throughout the year.
