Participants in the fifth cohort of the training programme ‘Beginning Your Journey in Sustainable Agripreneurship’ presented their products, services and business ideas at a Student Start-up Showcase held on 01 October 2026 at the Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Réduit. The showcase provided an opportunity for aspiring agripreneurs to share their work and connect with entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders.

The programme was implemented under the National Training and Reskilling Scheme (NTRS) in collaboration with the Mauritius Chamber of Agriculture, the Human Resource Development Council, and the RTC as the training provider. The programme comprises six batches of 15 participants each, with around two months of training for each batch. Training for the fifth batch began on 11 August 2026 and is culminating in the Student Start-up Showcase.

Beginning Your Journey in Sustainable Agripreneurship aims to build practical skills in sustainable farming and encourage entrepreneurship in Mauritius’s agricultural sector. Participants explore agricultural fundamentals, modern production techniques, climate-smart practices, circular economy principles and sustainable business models. Classroom learning is complemented by practical training and field experience.

The programme also promotes the preservation of Mauritius’s agricultural heritage, including heirloom crop varieties and indigenous livestock. By bringing together agricultural knowledge and entrepreneurial skills, it supports participants in developing viable ideas that can contribute to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector.
