Communiqué: Deadline for submission of Grant application for refund & Grant ceiling for 6 months to 30 June 2016

NOTICE TO ALL EMPLOYERS & REGISTERED TRAINING CENTERS

Employers contributing to the HRDC Training Levy and Registered Training Centres are hereby informed that the Financial Year-end of the HRDC will change to 30 June as from 2016. The date limit for submission of claims for refund and the applicable grant ceiling are as follows:

  1. For all courses, training programmes and workshops ending in the period 01 January 2016 to 30 June 2016, the applications for refund should reach the HRDC by 30 September 2016.
  2. Applications for refund after the due date will be accepted, provided that the applications are fully completed and accompanied with all the relevant documents and are received at the HRDC within 2 months after the date limit of 30 September. A penalty of 25% of the amount refundable for the late application will be imposed.
  3. The ceiling for grant refund covering the period 01 January 2016 to 30 June 2016 will be calculated on a pro-rata basis i.e. 6 months and based on the levy contributed in the year 2015.

Launch of the Career Development Stairway (CaDS) Website

The Career Development Stairway (CaDS) is an initiative of the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) aimed at providing online information about job profiles and career progression in the ICT/BPO sector. The CaDS website will be officially launched by the Honourable (Mrs) Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, Minister of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, as follows:

Formation en Housekeeping dans l’hôtellerie

Le Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) invite les jeunes, âgés entre 16 et 35 ans, et les hôtels enregistrés avec le Tourism Authority à s’enregistrer pour un programme de formation en service d’étage (Housekeeping) dans le secteur de l'hôtellerie. Cette formation gratuite est dispensée par l'École Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval (EHSGD) et en mode d’alternance avec les hôtels. Nous avons 70 places disponibles pour ce projet et la sélection des candidats se fera par les hôtels participants.

Un National Certificate niveau 2 en Housekeeping sera attribué par l’EHSGD aux stagiaires qui complèteront le programme avec succès. Au cours de la période de formation, les stagiaires recevront une allocation mensuelle.

EVALUATION OF TRAINING IN THE REPUBLIC OF MAURITIUS - Data collection exercise through employer/employee survey in private enterprises

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) conducts regular studies of the labour market to identify and assess priority areas for skills development and training needs. The HRDC is also required to gauge the relevance and impact of training activities in line with its functions. One such study which is currently under implementation is the Evaluation of Training in the Republic of Mauritius. The study is presently at the data collection phase.

Workshop for Career Development Stairway (CaDS) – Job Profiles in the ICT/BPO sector

The HRDC has initiated the Career Development Stairway (CaDS), a national level project, which will be in the form of a website comprising information on job profiles (description of the job, qualifications, competencies, career progression…) in the ICT/BPO sector. The objectives of the project are to:

  • provide information on the various job roles and career opportunities in the different sub-sectors;
  • provide details on the progression opportunities on the same step and also information on roles on the next step;
  • help to plan career in the sub-sectors whether one is a new entrant to the sector, or is looking for further opportunities within the sector;
  • provide information to reduce the skills mismatch through development and provision of relevant training provided by informed training centre

Roundtable on bridging the current and emerging skills gap in the short-term and medium-term in the ICT/BPO sector

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) is organizing a roundtable with the following objectives:

  • Link industry with education/training providers;
  • Increase mutual understanding of skills needs in the sector;
  • Come up with common skills development programmes to bridge the (1) current skills gap (2) medium term skills gap;
  • Devise strategies to strengthen education/training and industry linkage.

The event will be organized under two main themes, namely Bridging the current skills gap - Quick-fix and New skills for new jobs for a skilled workforce – Medium-term.  Dr H Neeliah, Manager of the Research & Consultancy Division at HRDC, will act as Moderator.
