PLACEMENT OF RODRIGUAN ENTREPRENEURS IN SMEs IN MAURITIUS

This project was in line with the HRD-related projects for Rodrigues and got the collaboration of Rodrigues Regional Assembly (RRA) and SMEDA. The Placement programme was officially launched on May 2013 at the seat of HRDC by the Minister of Education and HR, in the presence of officials from Rodrigues.

Work placement programme for Lower VI students

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources and the HRDC in collaboration with the relevant Employers’ Organisations/Institutions operating in the public and private sectors initiated the Lower Six Placement project in 2007 in Mauritius which allowed for short period placement of 2/3 weeks duration to students of Lower Six as well as to students following courses in prevocational courses during their school holidays. This programme has allowed the placement of over 4 450 students in some 250 partipating organisations since 2007.

The pattern maker is a strategic player for a company interested in clothing manufacturing; he transforms the drawing of the stylist into a pattern.This program aims to equip Rodriguan entrepreneurs involved in garment making with sufficient knowledge and training in creative concept and designing that will meet the demands of the industry.

Workshop on innovation and diversification for women entrepreneurs in Rodrigues

The series of workshops on entrepreneurship, innovation, diversification and advance pattern drafting were among the priority fields of training identified for Rodrigues for 2012-2013. These training areas emanated from the findings of the Labour shortage survey carried out in Rodrigues during the third quarter of 2011. The two-day workshops on entrepreneurship, innovation and diversification solicited the joint collaboration of the National Women Entrepreneurs Council (NWEC) and the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) of Mauritius and were held on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th November 2013 respectively. 30 - 40 Rodriguan entrepreneurs (both full-fledged and aspiring) were invited to the workshop on issues of entrepreneurship, innovation and diversification. The six-day workshop on advance pattern drafting were held from Friday 15th November to Thursday 21st November 2013 (including a half-day session on Saturday 16th November) and delivered by the Fashion & Design Institute (FDI) of Mauritius for some 20 women entrepreneurs who already had basic pattern making skills and were wishing to upgrade their skills for up-market productions.
